Irene Benson LRPS

Director of finance

Irene has lived in the Lyme area for 35 years. Her work experience includes teaching, bookkeeping, administration, careers and sales & marketing. 

She became part of Lyme Bay Arts because of her belief in its vision for a new artists’ venue, the enjoyment of working with a dedicated team and her passion for art, and particularly for photography.

Phil Clayton

Artistic Director

Philip trained at Hornsey, The Cass and Central St. Martins’ and has headed several departments of Art and Design. He has exhibited widely both at home and abroad, and is well-known for his unique use of colour. He paints in oils and prefers to work en plein air, dilapidated rural buildings being a favourite theme.

Philip combines his practice with running the Lyme Bay Arts galleries, mentoring, and is actively involved with the London Charity, Art for Youth.

Elizabeth Richie

A multi-disciplined arts background: professional ballet dancer, Stage Management at Royal
Court Theatre, London followed by a busy arts admin career. General Manager, Phoenix Theatre
Leicester; Drama Officer, Arts Council of GB, London; Arts Officer, Canadian High Commission,
London; Lecturer in Arts Admin, Leicester Poly. Co-ordinator “Arts Initiative & Money Project”
Calouste Gulbenian Foundation, London. As a mature student gained Post Grad Cert, London
University.
Started painting 15 years ago and was actively involved with the arts in and around Lyme Regis.
Instrumental in setting up Lyme Bay Arts as a CIC. Helped create and open The Gallery and The
Space at Symondsbury Estate. Continues to help run the organisation and develop its expanding
exhibition/workshop programme.

Graduate in Geology with 1st class honours from University of Wales. Professional technical writer since 1977, more recently also web developer, typesetter and copywriter working both for blue chip companies and local small businesses and organisations. Copywriter, web developer and stand-in social media manager for Lyme Bay Arts. Volunteer communications and web manager for local horticultural society; admin of several local and international social media groups including RPS Digital Imaging Group and RPS Southwest Region. Currently finding it hard to reserve time for pottery and photography even in lockdown!
